After this one, all will leave the performance wondering what spiritual battles are going on all around them!

"Momma, I left home." " Momma, I came back."  "Momma, I need a man."  Momma, help me get rid of this no good man!"  What am I talking about?  The latest black Christian musicals, of course.  I don't know about you but I've gotten excited every time one came to town and even liked some of them but was left with a nagging feeling.  I couldn't help but wonder, is this really a Christian play?  Is it just me or are we seeing the same story line over and over again.  Girl is raised in a good home, hooks up with the wrong people, Momma prays and girl comes home.  And all of this is spruced up by loading the cast with "big names" who spend 90 percent of the time singing.  The story line seems to be nothing more than pauses between each track (that's on sale on tape or CD right after the show).

Now I'm not going to lie to you, this trend is entertaining but still that nagging little question continued to bother me.  What is the Bible message in all of this? One scripture in particular kept ringing in my head. 2 Timothy 3:5 warns us against having a form of Godliness but denying the power thereof; from such turn away.  In other words, Jesus is not the logo that you stamp the package with.  Jesus IS the package!

With this in mind, I set out to write a Christian musical that preaches.  The play entitled ANGELS is what the Lord blessed me with.  Yes, it possesses some very entertaining elements but most of all, it is spiritual.  From the opening scene, you'll know right away that this is not another Momma play.

Full of scripture and Biblical lessons, this play goes right after the most ignored age group of our time- the 18 to 25 year old.  As you know, it's right at this age when our young people make choices that will affect the rest of their lives.  ANGELS introduces you to Red and Liz, two young people going in opposite directions who meet and fall in love- but there's something here that hasn't been done before.  The play shows you the spiritual side of each and every decision they make.  God's hands can be seen moving in their lives.  From the opening scene, complete with praise dancers and awarding winning music from Richard Smallwood (listen), ANGELS grabs our young peoples' attention and holds them throughout.  I guarantee you that you and the young people you lead will be blessed just preparing for this production.

This one play deals with a host of issues that plague the African American community and just as the gospel does, it makes it so plain that a six year old can understand.  ANGELS shows spiritual forces at work in what seems like the smallest of decisions.   It also sets out to restore traditional values that have been long forgotten.  At the beginning of the play, a relationship is established between Red and an old man that he meets on the street.  A friendship blossoms and Pops teaches Red how to be a man.  How badly does this lesson need to be taught in your community?  But the old man doesn't stop there.  He teaches Red about traditional gospel music like this.  Get this play!  After this play, all will leave the performance wondering what spiritual battles are going on all around them.  Leave an impression that will not be soon forgotten with this full hour plus altar call.

O.K., if you're still reading, you must have a few reservations and I understand that but let me answer a few questions for you before you move on.
Most importantly, ANGELS is a play that witnesses.  Yes, it's a little challenging but isn't that what makes a program or church function worth while?  The second point that I want you to remember is that I've thought of everything that you could possibly need to make the process simple and enjoyable.  I go a step beyond anything else you will find on or off the net.  I don't just give you a play, I tell you how to get the people and the resources to perform the play.  I don't just tell you what the characters say, I tell you how they say it, what they were doing when they said it; what they were wearing, (where and how to get their costumes cheap).  What was the lighting like?  How did everyone else react to what they said?  Where did they stand?  And on and on and on. (I think you get the point).

Listen, I've read what's out there and nothing captures the African American Christian experience the way that our plays do.  And what's worse, you get charged an arm and a leg for he said she said.

The last point I want you to consider is that I stand by my guarantee.  If you check it out and it doesn't do anything for you, let me know and I will refund your money with a smile.  Click on the link below and get started today.

TESTIMONIAL:

Just wanted to let Playhouse Ministries know that our church put on a production of Angels on Sunday and it was a huge success. The church was packed (our head deacon said we used every extra chair in the church). The actors were exceptional and the music was wonderful. The response from the church has been so good. I am constantly getting emails and phone calls congratulating the drama department on a job well done. But what make everything so great is that souls even got saved that evening. That's what it was all about. So thank you Stan Hood for writing such a good play. If you ever write a sequel to it let us know.

I was able to download the play.  I did not get to the music yet, I'll let you know
how that part works out.  I started reading the play and I am relieved it is as you say.  I was hesitant but I was also impressed with what you said about other plays.  This is my 3rd season not going to the theatre because I had the same concerns.  I love plays and I am glad the Lord led me to purchase Angels.

Here's an update from Carol posted 6/24/03

The Play, The Play, The Play was an absolute HIT, thank you Lord.  I am still on cloud 9 and I keep thinking about it.  So are quite a few other people.  So far two other church's has asked that we do the play for them. When we get the pictures I'll email them to you.

The cast and crew were all hype on Saturday and quite frankly we still are.  The group from Virginia we had come in to sing were great, the young people loved them.  We had about 150 people there, we ran out of space and people had to sit wherever we could fit a chair that was not in the way.

Thank you for allowing the LORD to use you in a mighty way!!!
