This is easily the funniest gospel play of 2008!

I am a big fan of Broderick Rice, a Christian comedian/singer, who mentioned a black owned airline in one of his routines.  He had some funny things to say about how the hypothetical “Soul Airways” would be operated under black ownership.  This got me thinking – actually daydreaming – about what would happen if a black owned airline was responsible for ushering saints to heaven.  I envisioned Don Cornelius and a Soul Train type atmosphere at the airport terminal.  It would be a non-stop party and it certainly would happen in style.  Of course, there is no doctrinal value in this type of play unless we build in a story line that will allow us to learn a few practical lessons as we laugh.  And just in case you have someone in your audience who isn’t big enough to understand that you’re not suggesting that people will go to heaven this way, we have plenty of disclaimers throughout that will keep you out of trouble with the people and the pastor!

So relax and have some fun.  It’s okay for Christians to take a minute and laugh.

Each character has to go to Gate J316 and wait for their names to be called so that their reservations for the trip to heaven can be confirmed.  Some have their papers in order and some don't.  Each one that is rejected is caught up in one of the seven deadly sins.  Those who have everything in order possess at least one of the seven heavenly virtues.

The best characters in the play are the two snappy airline attendants working at the ticket counter who break the Word of God down to every potential passenger who gets out of line.
